Over the past 35 years, Roland Esquibel has driven more than 2.3 million miles delivering Acme Brick. Today, he makes those deliveries in a Ryder System uniform, and Ryder has just recognized him as one of its three Drivers of the Year.
Roland was inducted into Ryder’s “Driver Hall of Fame,” representing its Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS) business, at a June 18 ceremony in Miami.
“I was glad that I could attend this celebration honoring Roland,” said Ed Watson, Acme Brick Company President and CEO. “Acme believes in One Team, and now our team extends to the many drivers at Ryder who safely deliver our product every day. Roland is a great driver and an even better person.” Also attending were Alex Dominguez, Director of Supply Chain Management, and Jeremy Emler, Director of Sales for Acme’s South Texas region.
Roland Esquibel is one of many drivers who began delivering Acme Brick as employees and are now employed by Ryder. Earlier this decade, Acme began transitioning from a company-owned fleet of delivery vehicles to Ryder’s innovative DTS program. Under this arrangement, Ryder maintains a dedicated pool of trucks and drivers assigned exclusively to Acme.
Roland continues to serve Acme customers in South Texas from Acme’s San Antonio sales office.
Ryder’s Driver of the Year program is now in its 53rd year. The program recognizes drivers in its three main businesses – Supply Chain Solutions, Fleet Management Solutions, and Dedicated Transportation Solutions – from among more than 13,000 professional drivers. Inductees are recognized not only for their stellar driving records but also for their lasting impact on the company, their teams, and their communities.
A native of Devine, Texas, Roland Esquibel is a U.S. military veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Beyond work, he actively supports his community through his local church, continuing his lifelong mission of service and mentorship.
